For all of its promise, the Hatching quickly went from bad to worse for Nebrona. First K'al getting his predicted bronze, then Wiska getting stabbed, then Tuyeth Impressing to someone else, and then Wiska and her green dying. Nebrona felt tears gather in her eyes and trail down her cheeks, though, thank Faranth, she didn't start crying in earnest. Sometimes life just wasn't fair- though it would help if Lorisette were saved to be staked out for Thread when it fell.
Nebrona did take the opportunity to move closer to Lenia now, wanting a friend nearby. Or was that- someone to watch her back in case something *else* happened.

Another sound of whispers and murmurs exploded upon the blue's birth. It was an ordinary thing, head knobs shorter than the usual bunch, but it was cute in its certainty. What had peaked their interest was his odd hued talons. It wasn't often that a dragon had white talons.
The cute beast approached a male and some became curious that this. Blues didn't often...no, nevermind that. What mattered was that the boy had found his dragon.
K'al had heard of a boy Impressing to a blue and snickered. Poor sap, the lad was only one rank higher. Had he Impressed a green, he wasn't sure he would be able to contain himself.
Nebmaeth continued busying himself with feasting as graciously as a starving dragonet could, which wasn't much. He made little attention to the brown flit eying his with interest.
K'al had wondered where that girl was. A green would surely crack forth soon and Impress to her. K'al grinned broadly to himself. He couldn't wait to show off his Bronze.
However, K'al was at a distant where he couldn't see that Platinum. Oh, he would surely hear of it sooner and later and he would glower.
Talo was in the perfect area to see this strange creature though. She had even voiced her amazement upon its arrival. She watched the dragonet's eyes whirl, surveying her pick. Talo hadn't need to worry about this one choosing her. After all, she wasn't a male.
But finally, making her decision, she found her way to her desired candidate. Talo's heart raced. She was more excited that she'd thought she'd be. Was her dragon?...no, no, don't wish for one.

And'l stayed where he was crying. That was until he heard a voice in his head. He slowly opened one eye and looked down and saw the pure white talons. He slowly reached out and poked one of them to see if it was real. He felt the comfornting voice of the dragon. He closed his eye again. The fear he had felt before still running through him before he felt something nudge him and say Mine there is no reason to be scared. Your acting silly. The blue this time nugded And'l hard egough to knock him back into a sitting postion. And'l opened his eye's and looked at the blue for a moment before it registered.
His tears that he thought were gone form before came back though they were replaced with tears of joy as he quickly threw his arms around the dragon who let out a soft croon. Now come on Mine. I am getting hugry and you need to feed me. And'l nodded softly and stood up and lead the blue to were the food was. And'l in his usal manner after getting some for his blue moved off to the side. Though Gopeth was not having that. He reached up gently biting the side of And'l shirt and half drug him toward were the other newly impressed where. You need not act so shy Mine. You can feed me prefectly well over here. No one is going to hurt you. I wouldn't allow it. And'l sighed and looked at the blue and wishpered " Please my love can we not do this now. I really just want to...."
Want to what Mine? Go hide. I don't think so. That is just silly and I will not let you do that. The blue just curled up looking at him. And'l just shook his head. It was obvious to him that his days of hiding form everyone were over. The two firelizard on ethier of And'l's shoulders looked at the blue with obvious affection in there eye's. It was obvious to them that this blue was exactlly what there pet needed.

As it turned out, something else did happen, and Lenia might just have become Nebrona’s new good-luck charm. Well, Nebrona thought, watching the new metallic-white hatchling in awe and admiration. That certainly settled the question if mutations would affect dragon eggs too. And what a dragon! Bigger than Tuyeth, and much prettier, more graceful, better lines- Nebrona watched the dragon’s progress with a hungry eye, but she was sure her heart stopped beating when the new hatchling up and curled up at her feet!
Nebrona exalted at the sound of Allirth’s voice, and immediately bent to caress her beautiful head. Nothing else existed for her now, and past sorrow was forgotten in a rush of joy and pride. N’rona, rider of Allirth, now and forever-
Nebrona, dear. Those names aren’t for queens’ riders. And I prefer yours the way it is. Allirth’s voice corrected her indulgently, making Nebrona blink in surprise. Sure, Allirth had the size, but she hadn’t considered that she might be a queen, as Tuyeth was.
Allirth laughed and rose to her feet. Nebrona had the distinct impression that Allirth was laughing at her as much as with her, but she didn't mind. There'd be time to tease back later, she was sure, and she had the feeling that Allirth was anticipating it as much as she was. For now, they had much more urgent issues- Allirth needed to eat! But first...
"Her name is Allirth." She announced to nearby Lenia, smiling with the brilliant exeuberance of the newly-Impressed. Then she was gone, headed off the sands with the platinum hatchling padding along at her side.
Oh, look- there was K'al feeding his bronze. She looked down at her wonderful dragon as she fetched her food, and found a spot where she could settle down to feed the hatchling. In full view of K'al, with her big, beautiful, intelligent, *queen* dragonet.

Lenia felt, rather than actually saw Nebrona edge closer to her. Her head turned ever so slightly so that she was looking at the other Candidate through tendrils of hair, her blue eyes piercing straight through. From the light in the Hatching Ground, she could see the glimmer of tears in her eyes, her mourning of the young green, the death of the dragonet's chosen. Creeping closer, she extended a hand and rested it briefly on Nebrona's shoulder, squeezing lightly before retracting it as suddenly as it came.
Her attention didn't hold on the girl for long; her blue eyes caught on movement, sudden movement. The Egg! The Egg she had wanted! It was shaking, rolling, splitting. It was...
"What is that?" Kaiden mumbled to himself, his eyes straining, his feet aching from standing on tippy-toe to see over the taller assortment of Candidates. The dragonet was shining, glowing, but not gold, no way that could be gold! She was like a white, like a white but-
"But whites aren't white," Henerik mumbled to himself, his quill pausing momentarily, hovering over the new sketch in his lap. He had already documented the Impressions...the death...the stabbing and now was sitting back to take it all in for a moment more. It was definitely a metallic, that was certain, for she shown like the gold had. Her pure white tone was such an oddity, such-
"What a cause for surprise. What a Hatching," H'zu mumbled, watching the dragonet gracefully pick herself up and head deliberately to the female line. Erusth told him, his senses sharp and correct, that the dragonet was a daughter. A queen. And now she made her choice...
Lenia's breath was holding, Midna squawking somewhere over head didn't distract her. She was following the dragonet's progress like she'd never followed anything else before. Her pace was brisk and business-like, though she did seem to be taking the time to look them all over. Three girls shot down and...Her eyes came to rest on Lenia. They stared at each other for a moment...A long moment it felt like, but her eyes whirled and Lenia suddenly, instinctively knew she wasn't for her.
The dragonet choose and Nebrona was her's. A horrible mixture of relief and remorse surged through Lenia. Did this mean that...? But Nebrona was turning and the smile, the feelings of excitement, of Impression, of her words were all for Lenia. She reached out, her hand extending towards the other female, but dropped to her side, reconsidering whatever touch of affection she had though to give.
"Congratulations, dear Nebrona," She murmured, though she felt that her words would fall on deaf ears; Nebrona was probably too high on Impression to notice. And then she was gone, off to feed her newly Hatched dragonet, leaving Lenia alone...

Perhaps now things really would settle down into an ordinary hatching. And there...a green...of course, there should be lots of those, lots of ordinary little greens.
This one was not as ordinary as most, for her hide was mottled and dappled, all kinds of shades covering her. Still, despite that, there seemed nothing unusual about her...certainly nothing like the platinum queen.
As fast as her legs would carry her, she made her way to one of the girls. Hey, Ke'ran, your Cusyth is here. We're going to have a lot of fun, right. Right?
She would probably go almost unnoticed, for a moment after she hatched, the tip of a wing emerged from another egg and slowly, slowly, the clutch's second bronze emerged into the world. It might take a moment to realize this was not *another* queen, but no, a light bronze, distinguished by the faint shimmer of green most bronzes held. A burly, stocky dragonet. He too wasted no time over his choice. He did not even glance at any other boy as he padded across the Sands...
...and across...for as chance would have it, he'd hatched almost the far side of the grounds from his chosen. You might have been closer, K'ton. This place is big, and I'm starving. Well, I, Ytelth, have found you now. Then, as if that was entirely too much effort, he all but collapsed at the boy's feet. This hatching lark was *work*!
Yselka watched with some approval now. A second queen...even if she was albinistic...was more than she could ever have dreamed of. Another healthy green, and one could never have too many greens. And a good, healthy bronze. But this Hatching would always be...shadowed.
Always. She also realized that the very shy boy had Impressed, surprise surprise, to a blue. But she had a feeling the surprises were not over, and would not be until the last egg lay in shards on the Sands. Lyeth just lowered her head again. Do I not make the most lovely bronzes?
Green Cusyth Rider: Ke'ran (Keeran) Dragon name: Cusyth Dragon color: Green Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Summer Color code: 66BB33
Dragon appearance:
Cusyth is a mottled green, her hide shading from lime to medium-dark in almost random, swirling patterns, almost no part of her being even. It sometimes seems as if she uses every shade of green and then invents a few more for good measure.
Long and skinny, in all of her proportions...even her legs are longer, and she seems more comfortable on the ground than most dragons. Her takeoffs are quick, although her length...as long as some small blues...extends her turning circle in the air. She does not hover particularly well, but can be very fast.
Dragon personality:
In some ways, Cusyth appears to be the most typical of greens. Flirty, flighty, outgoing, confident. All of these things describe her, and none can be excluded. She is daring in flight, she teases anything male and she'll say hi to anyone...dragon, human, firelizard...especially if they'll scritch her eyeridges.
Underneath, she has a certain amount of insecurity, her self esteem is not what a green's should be. Aware of this, she tries to fake it, reaching out to her rider for support, letting Ke'ran's relaxed personality be the still water to her waves. It goes both ways, for she will always give Ke'ran her strength. Together, they can be more than either would be apart.
Cusyth does not remain loyal to a mate, and rarely will the same male fly her twice. She has a perverse tendency to choose the male her rider would least wish her to select...although Ke'ran may, with time, learn to tame her in this regard. Still, she is not capable of 'falling in love'. Flights, of course, mean nothing, right?
Her insecurity tends to lead her to value and appreciate discipline, and she actively enjoys formation drills, claiming they help her to relax. The more complicated, the better, and she may encourage her rider to try and 'improve' them...green or no, she can have ideas, right?
Bronze Ytelth Rider: K'ton Dragon name: Ytelth Dragon color: Bronze Dragon age: Hatchling Color code: CDD88
Dragon appearance:
A large, burly bronze, Ytelth may appear to have more stamina than Nebmaeth...but in truth has slightly less. What he does have is the ability to swiftly get off the ground and to land, thanks to his shorter proportions, in smaller places than most bronzes.
He is a lighter colored bronze, in fact, only a faint green shimmer would distinguish him from the darker golds. His underside is darker than his back, a reversal of the more common dragon variance, which makes him quite distinctive, even at some distance. His wingsails have a faint mottling or dappling of darker bronze across them.
Dragon personality:
Ytelth is an utter contrast to his brother. He is bronze, he has nothing to prove, and thus...thus he treats everyone absolutely fairly. True, there has to be a hierarchy during Fall, but outside of it? There is no reason not to listen to an experienced blue, right? Relaxed almost to the point of being lazy, he goes through life with utter unconcern.
However, he is also highly alert and never misses anything. He is the kind of dragon to make note of a trundlebug halfway across the bowl. When one under his command makes a mistake, he will bring it to their attention with gentle sarcasm, never raising his voice or being harsh. His almost hyper-alertness means that he sometimes pays attention to things that would be beneath the notice of most bronzes.
Where his rider is concerned, he is also relaxed. He absolutely trusts K'ton, and he lets him know it with silent, solid support, almost more like a brown in personality. A social dragon himself, he pushes his rider to be more outgoing, more open to others...and maybe to pay attention to a pretty greenrider now and again.
Although he lacks open ambition, that does not stop him from quietly being there, being reliable. Being the bronze everyone can trust...he does what he says he'll do, using his rider's memory casually to supplement his own. In some ways, he is the perfect match with his sister, Allirth, and he is very fond of her.

K'al caught sight of that girl and grinned in triumph. Soon the sight of her green would be revealed and he'd just...go-What on earth was that? A mutation? No, a Queen. the smug grin he had on his face quickly dispersed. His frown set tightly and he glared at her. The she beast paid no mind to him. To others it would seem that way. But to him! To him the beast was merely reopening recently healed wounds.
During his one sided staring contest, K'al had forgotten about the meat he held within his hand. And the almost full Nebmaeth had his mouth open waiting. But when he realized we wouldn't be fed, he closed his chops and stared up at this rider. How dare His leave him waiting. Didn't His know that having the dragon's mouth left open for no reason made him look ridiculous? Lifting his foot, he ground it onto K'al's toe, immediately rousing his attention.
Mine, have you already tired of me? I am here and I demand to be fed! The dragonet snorted.
K'al's toe stung and he could feel the heavy throb. Damn, beast. K'al would even the odds. He held the meat out to his dragon. But when Nebmaeth reached for it, his grip loosened its hold and the meat feel to the ground.
Whoops, the boy began, my fingers slipped
Within, the caves a green dragon had sprung forth and Talo had hoped dearly that the creature would not approach her. She didn't. Actually, the green didn't take time to even ponder the matter. She sped to a female candidate and Talo smiled at the two, while sighing her relief inwardly.
Her head snapped back to the stage when her form was slightly pushed. Everyone was trying to see wait came next. What had excited them though, was the egg held a bronze. Another bronze! That certainly didn't happen to often, Talo supposed. If it did, Bronzes wouldn't be ranked second.
This Bronze had also made up his mind quickly. To her disappointment it wasn't her, but another male candidate not too far from her. The boy seemed she, but the Bronze didn't have the stereotyped characteristic, so maybe to two would get along well. Talo shook her head at that. Of course, they would be close. The Bronze had chosen the boy candidate after all. She soon looked back toward the remaining eggs, anticipating the next birth.

At that point, two eggs rocked right into each other, and cracked open. Their occupants, brown and blue, stared at each other for a moment in a distinctly bemused manner.
The brown then shook off what remained of his eggshell. He tilted his head, as if listening for something rather than looking, then he padded towards a boy who never stopped talking and, in fact, had had one-sided conversations with several eggs including that one. He reached the boy and then wrapped his tail possessively around an ankle. Sodil, now S'dil, enthused, "His name is Aouenth, and isn't he the most perfect dragon ever hatched.
Yselka murmured to Lyeth, "Was wondering where all the browns were." The gold made a snorting sound and nuzzled her rider.
The blue prowled the Sands, sniffing at each remaining boy, its creels of hunger becoming, it seemed, more and more desperate. No, that one was not right, nor that one, no, not that one. Where was His?
He started to cast his eye up towards the Stands, and Yselka held her breath. Stands Impressions could cause all kinds of...problems.
No, wait. Wait. Silly blue, he was ignoring half the Candidates. He glanced towards Talo. And then, purposefully, he made his way towards...
...pad, pad. Stop. A long hesitation, almost as if the dragon could not believe his own choice.
It seems, N'cia, that it is to be you and I. I am Agneloth. A definite, distinctly *male* voice wrapping its way into the girl's head.
Somebody in the Stands could clearly be heard to say, "That dragon did *not* just do what I think it did!"
Yselka herself was picking up her jaw. Women did not Impress blue dragons. They just...didn't. It was against the rules, surely! This was crazy...maybe the blue was mutated to, inside its head, its sense of who it was supposed to Impress to affected. It wasn't like there hadn't been plenty of boys to choose from, and the blue itself had seemed surprised by his own rider!
Blue Agneloth Rider: N'cia (Nocia) Dragon name: Agneloth Dragon color: Blue Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Summer Color code: 00BBFF
Dragon description:
Of average size and build, this blue is rather interestingly marked. His hide is overall light blue, but darker stripes run along the sides of his neck and down onto his flanks...he might be accused of having racing stripes. A similar stripe runs all the way down his tail to its fork.
An agile blue, he does particularly well at maneuvers such as barrel rolls and similar, seeming to have a good sense of where he is in the air. However, he has slightly short hind legs, and sometimes seems to have problems getting off the ground. Even more than most dragons, he prefers to take off from his ledge, or any rise, even slight, that he can find.
Dragon personality:
The only really unusual thing about Agneloth is his choice of rider, about which he will only say, with soft insistence, 'Nobody else was right'. Soft, because never does this dragon raise his voice about anything...either his mental voice or his physical one. If this dragon calls out to the entire Weyr, then know there is a good reason...either good or bad. He prefers not to bring such attention to himself.
That said, as the first blue in known history to choose a female rider, he is the center of attention...or would be, were there not even more unusual dragons in the clutch. He takes any turned heads in stride, always being relaxed about it. Sure, he would prefer not to be noticed, but if he is...what is the fuss about? If N'cia tries to shrink into herself, he won't force her to the center stage but rather nudge her, gently, into the edge of the circle.
Agneloth tends to take the hierarchy rather casually. He will chat with the queens as easily as any green and might have to be restrained from trying to fly them. This is not because he is ambitious, but because the difference would simply slip his mind. Rank is not just unimportant to him; it is immaterial. He pretty much does not see it. Thus, he sees no reason why a green or blue should not lead a wing.
He has no temper, either long or short, and is quick to tell his rider not to worry so much, that it's not that important. Especially if she feels insecure because of her unusual status...he will remind her she is the only possible rider for him. Because, she is.
Brown Aouenth Rider: S'dil (Sodil, male adoptable NPC) Dragon name: Auoenth Dragon color: Brown Dragon age: Hatchling Dragon description: Aouenth has a slight reddish tint to him, especially his flanks and tail. He is a smaller brown with longer wings, but has almost as much stamina as a bronze. Dragon personality: Very quiet, Aouenth is a dragon of few words, and he saves those words up...when he speaks it is important. He tends to prefer his own company and that of his rider to other dragons. He chases less often than most dragons. Rider paragraph: S'dil is often most known about the Weyr for his tendency to wear brilliant, clashing colors of clothing. He talks a lot...he fills the silence his dragon leaves, and seems at first too outgoing to be a brownrider, but...well...he can be reliable. Mostly.

Nocia had been a little sad about missing dessert, but no Candidate worthy of the name would miss a Hatching for food of any kind. She'd thrown her robe on as neatly as possible and listened to the speech, or tried to. Nocia been out on the sands when the first dragonet, a bronze, had hatched and Impressed. The gold egg had hatched second, surprising almost everyone. But the joy of the young queen's hatching had been marred by the attack on Wiska. She thought almost wistfully of the gold. If she'd been right for the queen, Nocia would have tried to live up to the dragon that chose her.
That poor little green who had chosen Wiska aroused a sense of horror and pity in Nocia's heart. The green had hardly begun to live before she died with her rider. Tears swelled in Nocia's eyes and she looked down at the sand, letting the tears fall and sizzle away. How could she Impress with happpiness, knowing that someone had died on the same Sands? In her sorrow, Nocia barely saw the metallic white through the tears blurring her vision. The blue, too, went unnoticed by Nocia. Another bronze Impressed, but he did not get more than a glance.
It seems, N'cia, that it is to be you and I. I am Agneloth. N'cia looked up at the male voice to see a blue? She stared at the dragonet in surprise, blues just didn't Impress females. Her voice cracked as she asked, "Are you sure, Agneloth? Blues don't Impress girls." The confident answer took her aback.
I am yours, silly N'cia. Now can we get food?
"Yes, Agneloth, you can eat now." She led the blue over to the food. The nearest bucket was dragged over to the pair and N'cia grabbed a handful of meat. As she held out her hand with the meat, she reminded the blue to chew.

When the gold hatched, Salye was among those moving forward to get closer. She didn't notice Lorisette's scheme until it was too late. She watched the struggle in mute horror, shuddering when she saw the scarlet blossom on Wiska's white robe. Everything was going too fast. The gold went to Ivria, leaving her hopes to vanish. Watching Wiska Impress to her green was too painful. Almost meekly, Salye retreated to her place.
At least with things so chaotic, there wasn't time to dwell on what had happened. Within moments, another strange occurrence happened. One of the large eggs burst open, and a silvery dragon stepped onto the sands. Salye blinked, almost wondering if the heat and the sad events were messing with her eyes. The silver dragon seemed female, and indeed, it headed for the girls. Salye sighed and tried to force herself to stay calm as more eggs hatched around her. She almost believed the strangeness was over, but then a blue Impressed to a girl!
"The world has gone crazy," she muttered. Well, at least she was here to see it. She would definitely have stories to tell when she went back to Monaco.
Tarana, Tesin, and R'nul all viewed the events below on the sands with similar expressions, alternating horror and joy. "I've never seen such an...eventful...Hatching," Tarana murmured. There were tears running down her cheeks after it all, and she briskly brushed her cheeks dry. Nebrona's Impression put a smile to her face, though, and R'nul guessed she was the girl Tarana had been favoring for the queen egg.
"I knew there would be odd colors in the dragon clutch too," Tesin said, smiling and patting Seabreeze. He looked over the remaining candidates, wondering how they were taking everything. He focused on Wynec, hoping his youngest brother would still have a chance to Impress.
In an attempt to avoid redundancy, suffice it to say that Wynec was shocked/horrified/surprised by the events on the sands.
He watched as a blue headed towards the girl candidates. "Hey...wrong direction!" He called, but then the blue Impressed! Wynec shook his head, unsure if the silver queen or the female bluerider was the strangest thing of the day.
He warily turned his gaze back to the remaining eggs. After all this, would he be left Standing? But he knew better than to give up this early. For all he knew, he might Impress the last dragon on the sands.

Lenia had been momentarily too focused on Nebrona leaving the Sands than paying attention to what was going on. She turned just in time too see...another gold? No, no, couldn't be. There was definitely a green sheen to that dragon, making him an obvious bronze. She paused to appreciate his unique coloration before her eyes drifted onwards, watching a green she had no interest in Impress some girl she now only had interest in because she had bonded to a green. Perhaaaps...But no, she must think about the future think about-
Kaiton? The bronze was heading straight for him, from all the way across the Sands. Kaiton knew it too and was staring with wide-eyed astonishment at the dragons deliberate progress. He was catching himself up on the Sands, slipping, nearly tumbled here and there, but obviously making a beeline...right for him.
He couldn't move, couldn't speak, but all around him there were flurries of movement, Eggs Hatching all around. He couldn't see the blue-
But Lenia could. Lenia had been watching him all the while, seeing with a surge of elation that he looked passed all the males. Could this mean?! He turned his head towards the Stands and Lenia felt the bubble of hope in her chest shrink, but then expand again within the span of a few micro-moments. He was heading her way! Towards the girls! She tried to step in front of it, like she had with the other blue, but she was a moment too late and Impression was made to...another girl.
Her heart sank and settle down somewhere between her her ankle and the sole of her feet. So close...She had been so close. Lenia hadn't been surprised at all by the dragonet's choice, but...So distraught that it hadn't been her, but some no-named female who was going to now right her name into the history Records. If anyone had been made for a blue, Lenia thought biting the inside of her lip so hard it bled with the magnitude of her disappointment, it would have been her! Not some other girl, but Lenia!
Not even half a dragonlength away, the bronze who had been so intent on scurrying over had finally stopped right in front of an emotionally numb Kaiton. He could barely see the whirling eyes before him and for a moment barely even registered the feelings of love, happiness, hunger, delight, and contentment that surged inside of him It wasn't until a strong voice that surely wasn't his own spoke.
You might have been closer, K'ton. This place is big, and I'm starving. Well, I, Ytelth, have found you now. The bronze said with all the strength he could muster before collapsing, exhausted onto the ground.
"Oh, Ytelth! Are you alright?" He gasped, crouching down next to the dragonet, horribly vivid images of a green shrieking as she passed /between/ fluttered through his mind.
I am fine, K'ton. Only hungry. Feed me? The Hatchling replied, pulling himself back up to his feet with resignation that he must travel for food.
"Oh, good. Follow me!" Kaiton, now K'ton exclaimed joy nearly bursting inside of him. And the two marched off the Sands, passing Candidates along their way.
He just had passed the stands when a certain harper man burst out, "That dragon did not just do what I think it did."
Henerik was positively dumbfounded. Never once, not even with the stories of legendary Ruth had a female EVER Impressed to anything other than a gold or green. Was there something wrong with the blue? Was it even a male at all? He had dropped his writing materials and was now far too distracted with the oddities of this Hatching to be concerned with note taking.

Yselka had been wondering about the browns?
Another one broke shell, this one darker and as large, easily, as either bronze hatchling, although not that well proportioned. This brown hesitated, glancing around the Sands, taking everything in...oh! What's that! He looked up and up and *up*...ooh! Big shiny thing! He actually warbled to Lyeth, then. Oh yeah. Something's missing. Something's...there's a hole, and he has to fill it. No, two holes. There's the one in his stomach, too.
The brown started towards the girls, then stopped. No, no, those were the wrong...shape...to fit in the hole. With an uncertain look towards the somewhat confusing Talo, he changed course to the boys. Hrm. Boys. One of them would fit, one of them would have a mind of the right shape to fill his hole, but which one? There were still plenty, after all, and for a moment the bulky hatchling considered his choice.
There. He stepped towards...Wynec. There you are. You're the one who fits, W'nec. I'm Neginoth. What is that big gold thing? Why is the sand grainy? Why am I so huuuuungry?
Now, who was paying attention. When the knife fight happened, a certain girl got bowled over by a hatchling. Ever since then, Filexia had been holding her robe together so as not to show the entire Weyr certain not unattractive...attributes. She looked absolutely sour...TWO queens, and neither had picked her.
Now an egg exploded and a large, subdued green popped out of it. She knew exactly who she wanted, padding right over to Filexia. The queens were forgotten as the girl dropped to one knee to put her arms around her dragon. "Of course I'll accept you, Oweith!"
Of course..she also forgot something else. Umm. Niiiice view.
Brown Neginoth Rider: W'nec (Wynec) Dragon name: Neginoth Dragon color: Brown Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Summer Color code: 993311
Dragon description:
Neginoth is huge for a brown, but slow...his proportions simply do not lend themselves to either agility or great straight line speed. Whilst he is as large as many bronzes, he cannot keep up with them in the air. His shade is the dark side of medium.
He has absolutely no markings on his hide, being literally the exact same color all over. Wings and tail are oddly stubby. He makes up for this by having an incredibly precise sense of 'Between', always knowing where and when he is.
Dragon personality:
Neginoth has to know everything. And being a dragon, he thus has to know everything several times. Several times. Several...you got it. Not only will his hatchling days be punctuated with 'why' but even as an adult dragon, he will insist on knowing all the gossip...he's worse than the silliest green about it. If a commotion is going on, he'll want to see, and if he can't fit...that's what he has a rider for! Oh yes, and riders are good for asking questions, too.
Despite this, when he does get focused, he has a brown's stoicness in full measure. He tends to focus, however, only in real fall..his drills are terrible, but when the danger is genuine, he rises to the occasion. Sweeps are utterly boring, and he will complain about them constantly. Or about anything else that might be tedious. Being bathed is boring, unless his rider gets help. Preferably chatty help.
He is demonstrative in his affection for his rider, and quite willing to tell every dragon who cares to listen...and W'nec himself...how wonderful he is at the slightest provocation. Because of his slowness, he does poorly in flights, and makes a good show about not caring...but W'nec will know how much it hurts to want a green and not be able to have her. It will be to his rider he turns for distraction at such times.
In similar measure, Neginoth has no desire to lead a wing, perhaps because he knows he cannot handle the difficult maneuvers. Or perhaps it is simply that there is absolutely no ambition anywhere in this brown, quite happy with a place in the wings and his rider's love.
Green Oweith Rider: F'xia (Filexia, female adoptable NPC) Dragon name: Oweith Dragon color: Green Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Spring Dragon description: Oweith is a subdued green, almost grey in her shade even when in the best of health. Two almost white streaks run down the underside of her neck, ending between her forelegs. A large green, almost as big as some blues, she has oversized wings, that are an advantage in gliding, but not in tight turns. Dragon personality: Oweith is a quiet green, neither loud nor ambitious, quite happy to be at the very bottom of the totem pole. She does not show off, and even her flights tend to be quiet affairs...and if she finds a male she likes, he may win over and over again. Rider paragraph: F'xia did not come here to be a greenrider. Holdbred and proud, it was the gold she sought. Despite that, she has turned into a decent fighting rider. Her arrogance, though, does show through at times...and anyone who calls her a 'lesser' or a 'mere greenrider' is likely to get a tongue lashing.

The brown's eyes whirled as it eyed Talo. Her form grew more erect she too gazed at this Brown. But there was no connection and the little creature moved on to another soul. This was become a routine for Talo, it seemed. A dragon would look her way and abandon her. Was her trip here for nothing? If she didn't Impress this time around, there would be others right? But then the question was, would Talo want to relive this disappointment again?
She smiled to herself then. It wasn't all a disappointment, even if she didn't receive a dragon. She would remember this new experience and return every Hatching to speculate. Beside had been a candidate would had impressed a green. Talo hadn't been among the ones in front, she she had no idea of their girl's embarrassment. But when the female candidate let lose her torn robe and knelt to the ground, Talo got a glimpse of her...well, goods.
A blush immediately crept into her cheeks. It was rude to stare, she knew that, but. Talo quickly averted her eyes and scratched the back of her head in embarrassment. Yes, it was rude to stare and Talo took a deep breath to slow her pounding heart.
K'al's attention had been illy recieved when the shy candidate had brought along another Bronze. Of course, this Bronze couldn't even compare to Nebmaeth. He didn't even have the luscious bronze glow Nebmaeth had. The pair sneered at the truth K'al's mind had foretold.
His chin rising a few degrees, Nebmaeth returned his attention to his rider. His brother may have been a bronze, but he wasn't a bronze deserving of his attention.

Wynec shook his head as the large brown headed for the girls. Not another one! But then he seemed to change his mind and came over to the boys. Then, his eyes widened as a voice sounded in his head. There you are. You're the one who fits, W'nec. I'm Neginoth. What is that big gold thing? Why is the sand grainy? Why am I so huuuuungry?
"That big gold thing is Lyeth, your mother. And sand is grainy because...well, because it's sand. I suppose you're hungry because hatching is such hard work, but I'll get that fixed right away," he said, answering the brown's questions as if it was the most natural thing in the world. Then, he realized what had happened and he put a hand to his mouth, staring at the brown. Neginoth didn't miss a beat. What are you going to do? Are we going to follow the green over there? Why is her rider holding her robe like that?
"Uh...yes, we'll follow them. And I don't know why," W'nec admitted, barely noticing the other newly Impressed weyrling's wardrobe problems. "Come along, now." Grinning, he led Neginoth to the food. A bucket was brought over, and W'nec began feeding the brown, overjoyed that he had finally found his lifemate. In the stands, his family cheered, happy for his Impression.
Salye sniggered as the green weyrling let go of her robe...oops! A little comic relief wasn't a bad thing here. She sighed, waiting for the rest of the eggs to hatch. Some of her calm was beginning to wear off, and she was starting to grow a touch impatient. This had been a stressful Hatching, and she was tired.

Poor Talo. Even Yselka noticed that the candidate kept being eyed and then rejected. Perhaps it was because she was one of those who had both male and female within her..which like as not meant she would Impress green, and this clutch was relatively green-light.
Then again. She might be chosen by a blue...after N'cia *nothing* would surprise the Weyrwoman. As for the wardrobe malfunction? She ignored it. It had, in fact, happened before...
An egg spun like a top and pieces of shell flew in all directions. And Yselka was picking her jaw up off the ground again.
Just as H'zu's firelizard partook equally of bronze and blue, this one was a delicate mingling of blue and green. It fell within the size overlap between the two colors.
"Faranth."
If it was both blue and green, then it was both male and female...and slowly, slowly her gaze drifted towards...
And the turquoise shaded dragon was not hesitating, not waiting around. With all the transfers, even the diminished candidates were quite a number, and three or four were between it and its goal. It was coming through, and as it did so, one boy tripped over its tail and crashed to the Sands...but at least it was not a mauling. This hatching seemed relatively free of *those*.
And then it stopped. It was probable that Talo would think she...he...was just being teased again for a moment, the turquoise sat on its haunches like a feline, neatly tucked up the offending tail...and then, calmly, reached out to join its mind to hers. Or his...and that uncertainty was in the mind voice, flowing evenly between male and female registers. I am Aenarith. I am yours, T'ik, and you are mine. Using the name she thought of herself as...himself. Talo to Tairik to T'ik. And a strength that was more than blue or green alone.
Pay attention to meemeeemeeeeeee! That would be the blue that hatched while everyone was staring at the turquoise. That would never do, and thus the hatchling bugled. Well, he tried to. Let's make that, he *squeaked*, then looked embarrassed at the sound.
But okay. Now. Which of the Candidates was looking at him not that odd-colored upstart. The blue whirled and then trotted towards a group, literally pouncing on top of the most notorious prankster of the Candidate group, turning Ichibei into I'bei. "Hey, get off me, Uthnoth! Your talons are digging in!"
Turquoise Aenarith Rider: T'ik (Talo) Dragon name: Aenarith Dragon color: Turquoise Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Summer Color code: 66DDBB
Dragon description:
Blue and green, shouldn't be seen. This dragon never heard that axiom, for deep blue mingles and swirls with light spring green. On it, somehow, it works. If it were a blue, it would be small, if a green, large, falling in the overlap between the two colors. Slightly short, pointed wings show agility and indeed, this dragon can turn in the air.
For most of the hide, the two colors swirl together, and sometimes it may seem more green from some directions, more blue from others. Green, though, predominates on the neck and wingshoulders, blue on the flanks and underside of the tail. Across the back, the swirling becomes so tight as to merge into one turquoise shade.
Dragon personality:
It's a boy. No, it's a girl. Turquoise dragons carry both in one body and that, perhaps, is why Aenarith chose a rider who is much the same way. Neither male nor female, neither chasing nor rising, Aenarith thus holds itself apart. Its gender is fluid, for the most part, its mind voice is male, but when its rider becomes insecure it can rise into the female ranges. Sometimes, too, it seems to reflect the gender of the one speaking to it.
Perhaps because it is above certain distractions, Aenarith carries a strength that is more than green or blue. Nothing fazes this dragon, nothing scares it, and it will back down from nothing short of the full force of a queen...and perhaps not even then. Fortunately, it places a high value on duty and will always do what is required...this is a dragon that can be absolutely relied on.
Aenarith is not outgoing, not on the surface, but no dragon could have a more loyal and caring friend. Although it does not flirt, it gives heartfelt compliments to anyone...dragon or even human...who might be feeling down.
Blue Uthnoth Rider: I'bei (Ichibei, male adoptable NPC) Dragon name: Uthnoth Dragon color: Blue Dragon age: Hatchling Hatching season: Summer Dragon description: A sort of azure blue, very rich and light, although not as much so as the sapphire firelizard. As small as some greens, Uthnoth is a very lightly built dragon, who sometimes seems skinny, especially when he was half grown. Dragon personality: Uthnoth is not a very typical blue...he's loud, rambunctious and outgoing. He's the dragon with the bad idea...and the rest of the wing follows him. Of all the weyrlings in his class, he was in the most constant trouble...and always for a good reason, to boot. He is a good search dragon, but his idea of searching a candidate is to, say, trip them over with his tail, or...you get the picture. Rider paragraph: I'bei is a prankster, and he is completely incorrigible. Anything from apple pie beds to itching powder in the sweetsand... Only Threadfall and the preparation for it will sober him up. Between him and his dragon, it's kind of like having one of the Weasley twins around...
