Name: V’rey (formerly Vonrey)
Gender: male
Age: 18
Season: summer
Sexuality: bisexual but prefers men
Rank: wingrider/searchrider
Hair: black
Eyes: dark brown
Height: 5’7’’
Weight: 155lb
Description:
The first thing people notice about V’rey is that he’s short, standing a little shorter than the majority of Pernese women. He is also on the thin side, being not so much skinny as fine boned and not particularly heavily muscled. He moves smoothly and often stands leaning against walls or other convenient objects.
His face is triangular and almost pretty with high cheekbones and a pointed chin. His eyes and eyebrows seem to be the most expressive part of his face; V’rey can put whole shades of meaning into the twitch of an eyebrow. His hair is normally falling in his face because he doesn’t cut it often enough.
History:
Vonrey was born in Igen Weyr to a lower caverns worker who really had no idea who the father of her son might be, of course this wasn’t a shocking or unheard of state of affairs. In any case Vonrey grew into a sweet, if sometimes annoying boy who never missed a chance to pilfer from the kitchens, mock a mishap, or find somewhere to hide from work. In short it was quite clear Vonrey was going to be trouble whatever he did.
As all weyrborn boys do Vonrey began standing for clutches at twelve, as well as taking up the compulsory lessons and getting even more chores as punishment for goofing off in lessons, or just not attending them at all. Frankly it’s quite amazing he got to the sands sometimes.
The plague didn’t personally affect Vonrey much, though it affected his home a great deal. It came and went swiftly and left but little. Igen was almost a dead weyr with less than a double handful of dragons left. People abandoned the Weyr like a sinking ship, hopeing to leave the memories behind. Most of the candidates either returned to their homes, or were sent other weyrs, most notably Ista where a clutch rested on the sand laid by the queen Nyorath.
There seemed to be some question of whether or not the eggs would hatch but when the time came every candidate was sent out to give the hatchling the widest choice possible. Things were a little chaotic, and very tense, and a few eggs failed to hatch but one of those that did was a soft pale hided green who flopped on the sand a little way from her shell and demanded that Vonrey come to her. Come on now V’rey, I, Esmeth, need feeding and I can’t see you. So you’ll just have to come to me.[/color] Naturally V’rey obliged because he would anything for his beautiful green.
Even after hatching day the mood at Ista remained tense but V’rey scarcely noticed, wrapped up as he was with the care of his young dragon. V’rey settled better into lessons with Esmeth to care for, though he and the other greenweyrlings were informed that their dragons would not be chewing firestone in the hope that they would be able to clutch.
Time marched on, Esmeth and her green clutchmates Flew, were caught, and produced not one egg between them. Greens could not clutch. Now, along with the rest of Pern V’rey waits for the results of Lyeth’s maiden Flight, and sighs that the fate of the planet has once again come to rest on one Gold and her rider. He holds hard to hope and scours the records of the ninth pass for a cure all solution.
Personality:
V’rey is sharp, sarcastic, and flippant in his speech, he never misses an opportunity to say ‘oh yeeeah’ at things or leap joyfully on an inadvertent innuendo, even when he knows it’s not a good idea he just can’t help himself. However he does at least posses the redeeming feature of regularly embarrassing himself in public so that he can receive some of the same.
V’rey can be pretty stubborn and will keep arguing for a point on something long, long after the discussion is over if he thinks he’s right about something. He’ll dig and dig after that one piece of evidence that will prove him right, and feel pretty stupid if it proves him wrong. However if the facts do prove V’rey wrong he’ll accept that and admit it, because he respects the facts too much to lie about them. In fact V’rey really likes facts, he’ll spend hours in the archives for no reason other than he wants to and has an encyclopaedic memory for really useless things.
V’rey is light in love, never being, or wanting to be, serious about anyone, if he was a holder people would say he was afraid of commitment, since he’s a dragonrider, and a greenrider at that, he’s pretty normal.
Pets: none
For Riders:
Dragon name: Esmeth
Dragon color: green (D8F5C1)
Dragon age: 2
Hatching season: spring
Dragon description: Esmeth is an average sized green with slightly bigger than normal pair of wings. She has a habit of flaring her wings when she is angered or wants to emphasise some statement. On many occasions this green can be viewed sprawled bonelessly on her ledge or the rim, it seems to be her favoured position.
Esmeth’s hide is a pale pastel green that lightens and darkens across her body but lacks any change so great as to be called a marking.
Dragon personality: Esmeth is most often sweet to her rider’s sharp and reasonable to his immovable stubbornness, whenever V’rey has gone too far she’ll be there, softly reproachful and urging better behaviour in future. It has to be said that Esmeth is quite lazy, and quite vain. Her idea of an ideal day is for V’rey to bathe her, oil her, and then come and sun with her.
The darker side of this sweet green makes itself known when her Flight is near. She becomes incredibly caustic and insulting to and about everyone around her. In addition she is seriously nasty with her chasers, often flying straight at them and sometimes even attacking those she doesn’t consider worthy. V’rey’s attempts at modifying her behaviour are about as successful as Esmeth’s attempts to modify his behaviour.

Adoptable: not unless he becomes plot centric please.
