"No, Ack, you can't have it."
The blue firelizard shot his owner a dirty look and then vanished between, without the meatroll he had been about to steal. Z'war rolled his eyes. Sharp would have, too, could firelizards do such a thing. -He- was behaving.
The beach clutch had been interesting. A metallic blue and a firelizard with a mixture of bronze and blue. He'd asked one of the beastcrafters if they had any clue what could cause such a thing, and got a confused explanation about 'chimeras'. Certainly, no member of dragonkind had resembled it before or since.
There had, however, also been a good number of normal, healthy firelizards, the color spread had seemed right. Maybe sports like that happened sometimes, but rarely enough that people didn't stumble across them often...
The older rider glanced around again as he snagged food. Company would be a good thing.

R'nul walked down the kitchen, worn out after a Wing training. Writh had gone up to her ledge to sun, and R'nul had immediately headed for the kitchen. He waved at his mother, who was busy scolding a cook, and filled a generous plate of food. The dining hall was crowded, and he searched for an empty seat. Spotting one beside Z'war, he headed for the table.
"Hi, Z'war. Mind if I join you?" He asked, smiling at the older bluerider.

Z'war pushed the chair out with his foot. "No objection at all. How are you and Writh?"
He would rather have K'vil's company, but they had dinner planned for that night. Dinner that would undoubtedly be followed by other forms of entertainment.
He did not know R'nul well, but perhaps this was a good time to correct that. "Other than tired, which I can see."
He reached for one of the meatrolls on his plate as he waited for an answer, taking a bite out of it. Meh. Wherry. Ah well...

R'nul gratefully took the offered seat, glad to finally sit down. "I just came from Wing training," he said with a little smile. "Writh is good, but she's been a little temperamental lately. It must just be growing pains." A faint blush could be seen on his cheeks, and it was clear he didn't want to linger on the subject.
"I heard you were at the flitt clutch the other day," he remarked. "My brother Impressed one of the oddities."

Z'war nodded a bit. "Your brother is the...bluerider?"
He had seen the odd, possibly deformed firelizard. Well, he was no dragonhealer, and at least it had Impressed to a rider. The man had experience with dragonkind and would know what he could and could not do.
"A very strange firelizard, but it was eating well and it didn't seem deformed except for color."

Crabby let out an aggravated sound while his orbs pleaded to his companion. Kathal was always being so cruel to him. Instead of feeding him like any other respectable master would, Kathal commanded him to fetch his own meal. Of course, his master always said he'd be willing to share, but Kathal never fed him. Oh, what happened to the days when food would be brought to his chops?
Currently, the young firelizard was perched along the length of Kathal's shoulders. The young lizard nudged Kathal's face as he continued to plead. Kathal sighed in response. Crabby acted like he was never fed when in actuality his hunger was always satisfied. Kathal was merely trying to teach the lizard to get off his lazy hide and slither to the food that Kathal would have in his hands for him. However, whenever he would suggest this, Crabby would lose strength in his limbs and hang from his shoulders...as he was doing right now.
"Alright, alright...You win. Can you at least wait until I find a seat?"
Crabby promptly regained the needed strength to lift his head and chirped happily at his master. Ah, but it seemed there were very few seats left. However, he did spot an area occupied by two other males.
So, he took an empty seat near the two and tore a piece of meat to feed his firelizard. At first, the boy paid them no mind, trying his best not to pry in their conversation. But he would give them a moment's glance every so often. The two men..He felt he had seen them somewhere before...
Crabby chirped and Kathal nodded in response.
"Ah, right, the beach.."

R'nul shook his head. "Nope, my brother was the dolphineer. I think he got the metallic blue." Tesin had sent him and Tarana a message via another fire lizard after the hatching, telling them about the new colors. "I guess it's good they aren't deformed. I wonder if there will be similar colors in Lyeth's clutch?"
He looked up as a young man with candidate knots came and joined them. The dining hall was crowded, so he wasn't surprised to see a stranger sitting with them. And judging by the baby fire lizard and the mention of the beach, this candidate had been to the hatching. "So you were there? What's your take on the mutations?"

Z'war considered that. "Frankly, if they are healthy and can fly and flame...I don't care if a pink dragon with yellow polkadots hatches."
The rider might, but... "The metallic blue looked very healthy indeed. I didn't get as close a look at the other one. But their wings worked and they were eating well. Would you do something for the Weyr, R'nul? If that dolphineer, your brother, could keep record on his growth, whether he betweens successfully and if he chases females normally. Might be a good idea to feed him some pebbles of firestone, too, once he's mature. We can observe the firelizards, and then if we -do- get mutated dragons, we'll have a head start on any possible problems."
If they couldn't flame, that would be a problem.

Kathal's reaction to being addressed was one of near surprise. He hadn't expected anyone to acknowledge him. Would he have preferred it? Well, socializing was a healthy part of growing up, so the boy supposed didn't really mind it. But too be asked of his opinion now? Why couldn't it have been a shallow question?
The utensil whose destination was Kathal's mouth, ceased a few inches from those full lips. The boy looked up, quickly contemplating the question. He actually didn't see the mutated beasts. He had wandered off to feed his lizard only to return home soon after. Of course, he had heard of them. Incidences like these seemed to spread quickly among common folk. He was unable to see their beauty, so he thought the mutations was a freak birth.
But these people thought it was a wonderful idea for these oddities to be brought into the world. As long as they were healthy? Of course, being as young as he was, he hadn't seen that many fire lizards, but the ones he saw where normal, ordinary. He liked ordinary. Different things, you couldn't predict them. What if these mutated creatures somehow caused problems?
Kathal was broken from his thoughts when he heard the strained breathes of Crabby. Looking down, the lizard's mouth was ajar and reaching toward his utensil. However, the lizard was trying to make the effort of reaching without the actual effort of moving one's body closer to the food.
With a light shake of his head, Kathal moved the utensil within Crabby's reach. And with a soft shrug, his attention returned to the one who asked him a question.
"Nothing really. I'm just curious as to how these mutations come about. Have they happened before?"
