Cooling down after the Flight

Jasper slunk into the hatching grounds, echoes of the Gold flight zinging through his body and mind. He’d watched, torn between cheering his father and Mkukieth on and rather selfishly hoping that Mkukieth did not win. He’d been away from his father and High Reaches long enough to really appreciate being ‘Candidate Jasper’ and not Jasper, the Wing Leader’s son.

He loved his parents, he really did, but everyone knew them and that had always affected how Jasper was treated. In Ista, he was making his own way. He got into trouble or got punished without any considerations of who his parents where. He liked that, and was liking it more and more each day. If his father had won, he would have been Weyr Leader and it would have started all over.

Of course, Mkukieth was the best bronze on Pern. The Weyr Woman and the people here must have really wanted someone else, or of course Mkukieth would have won. He was loyal enough to mostly believe that.

He leaned back, waiting for the desire to start to fade. He didn’t know anyone here well enough to ask them to share the flight with him, only the other candidates and he wouldn’t ask one of them. Self control was a bit shaken during a flight and he did not want to be responsible for a candidate getting pregnant! What a horrible thing to be responsible for, making someone miss trying to impress for a year!

Andol was wondering about really. He felt the effects of the gold flight and was waiting for them to fade. Though they did not brother him much becuase he was the type who always had tight rein on his emoetions. He found himself in the hacthing ground. He saw there was athoer person there and Emerald who was sitting on his head flew off to greet the other boy as she landed on his shoulders and chriped at him. Topaz though decided to stay on his pets shoulders. Andol did not know if she should go over and talk to him or not. He was really shy and he did not like to. Though he knew that would be best to get to know these people eventually. His eyes though where wondering while he was think. He looked up and though The walls look pretty He then slowly walked over and said to Jasper " Hello." Though he pulled Topaz off his shoulder and clucth him to his chest and hid his face some. Becuase he had left Jenit back on his bed. The bronze though did not complian.

Jasper looked over to see who was there. He must have been deep in his thoughts to not hear them approaching. It was another candidate, he thought for a minute to come up with the name.

"Hi Andol, you looking for a place to cool down too?" That was polite and told the other he wasn't interested in other males as well. Hopefully that was all he'd need to do, some people, especially the Hold bred got foolish with gold flights.

Where had his blue flitt gotten to? He'd probably enjoy meeting these two flitts.

Andol sat down by the other and siad " Yep. I was tryin to avoid most people anyway. The sky looks pretty doesn't it. " The only reason he had came over to talk to Jasper was becuase he knew the other was not insterted in other guys so therefore everything would be ok. Andol had a habit of avoiding people during gold flights becuase he did not like the feeling that he was not completely in control over his discion making process in the matter. Emerald rubbed her head aginst Jasper's cheek affectionately. Andol though then hid his head behind Topaz again becuase he was blushing alittle. Though he had a tight rein on his emetions did not mean that it still did not affect him.
