When Tarana woke the morning after the Flight, her upset stomach testified to the mixed emotions she was going to have to deal with. It was wonderful that Lyeth had finally risen and that they had a Weyrleader, but there was the murder problem to deal with. She rose and dressed quickly, then headed out to the weyrbowl, intending to pace her troubles out. Victory yawned and latched onto her shoulder, promptly falling asleep again as he landed.
The Headwoman found her steps leading her towards the area around the Weyrwoman's weyr. Frowning, she turned her eyes to the ground, searching for...something. She didn't know what. Next she looked at the rocks around the weyr, wondering if some kind of fabric might have ripped from the murderer's tunic in his (or her?) haste to get away. The area seemed empty, though. Tarana sighed. It seemed likely they would never find B'toc's attempted murderer.

Kaiton had never watched a real Flight before! It had been exhilarating, full of action and suspense! He had never experienced 'dragon lust' as some of the Weyrfolk had called it, but had been able to control his more...primitive desires. The old bluerider he'd been talking with during the Flight, in the man's weyr no less, had told him he'd be able to shake off the feelings of arousal brought on by the mating dance of the bronzes and gold dragons. Still, it was a welcomed experience and he wished that he'd been able to spend the time with a pretty girl rather than some old man.
They had both seen Kylth fall and the bluerider had heard the dragon's scream, but neither of them paid much notice to it. B'toc could have merely twisted his ankle or something rushing to Yselka's room. However, Kaiton learned early the next morning, along with the news that a young bronzerider, H'zu, had been named Weyrleader with his dragon Erusth's Catch of Lyeth. Well, good for them! The greater, more spectacular news wasn't just the successful Flight of Lyeth, but that the former Weyrleader, B'toc had been stabbed!
It was shocking! Kaiton had been horrified to learn that someone could have possibly done such a thing to a man who was known to be a good leader. By the First Egg, perhaps he could have been a better Weyrleader than the young man H'zu was! Well, Kaiton didn't know either man, but if B'toc's dragon had already proved himself as a winner of Queens, then certainly he was strong! He was oh, so curious that he'd tried to learn everything about the event: The fallen dragonrider had only said two words to the other two riders who had found him. Aparently, they didn't mean much...or on the other hand could mean everything. "Strange blue" was what he'd said...Interesting...
Kaiton knew that harpers wore blue, but in his mind, he thought that he was referring to a blue rider! Why...it was hard to say, but he didn't think a group as honorable as the harpers would want to kill the type of person whom they revered the most!
His curiosity brought him to the Weyrwoman's quarters and outside of it, was the Headwoman! Was she checking up on the two Weyrleaders....or was she up to something?
"Hello Headwoman! A nice morning, isn't it? What brings you out here?"

Tarana jumped slightly, startled out of her thoughts by the candidate's voice. Quickly composing herself, she turned around and smiled at the candidate. She couldn't quite remember his name, but she thought it started with a K. He was Holdbred, new to the Weyr.
"Good morning, candidate...I'm sorry, I've forgotten your name," she said politely. "I just wanted to check on the Weyrleaders," she explained, deciding not to say anything about her real point in being here.
But as she had turned to address the candidate, something caught her eye. Bending down, she picked up a small mark piece. It was an eigth mark, from Benden. One of the bronze riders had probably dropped it yesterday. She would have to remember which bronze riders had come from Benden. Maybe it was a clue. "Looks like I found a lucky coin," she said lightly to the candidate, trying not to let on about any suspicions.

Oh...she didn't remember his name. Well, that was alright, not many people did. Perhaps Kaiton should get out of the Archive Room and have some decent conversations with people in the future. It always seemed as though people only vaguely remembered his face and could rarely remember the young Candidate's name. He was usually only mildly perturbed by this sad fact, but it coming from the Headwoman herself disheartened him. Ah, yes he needed a, what was the phrase?, a life.
"It's Kaiton, ma'am," He said, bowing his head slightly in the respect of her rank. However, the young man's tone was strong and confident, though he perhaps didn't quite feel that way. "Oh, I would think they were still...well, out of it?"
A soft blush colored his cheeks and he himself couldn't help visualizing the Weyrwoman of Ista. Was it wrong of him? He doubted it; half the bronzeriders of Pern had come to this world changing Flight and he was sure that, now that it was over, the losers were all relieving themselves of built-up and unspent tension.
He was distracted by the thought and didn't notice the Headwoman's movements until she straightened up. Curious of her sudden decent, he edged closer, tippy-toeing slightly to see what she had.
"A coin, huh?" He asked, from his angle just barely able to see the small coat of arms that signified Benden Weyr. "Why would it be here? Innit that from Benden?"

"Ah yes, Kaiton." Tarana made a mental note to remember it next time. She gave a wry little chuckle at his blush and hesitant question. "Perhaps, but they do have work to do, even on the day after a Flight." She didn't want the candidate to guess her real purpose for being here, at least not yet.
Victory, finally woken by the conversation, shifted on her shoulder and yawned in her ear, then eyed Kaiton curiously. Noticing the coin, he chirped, reaching for it with his claws.
"No, Victory. That's not a toy," Tarana said, pulling the coin away. She nodded at Kaiton. "Yes, it's from Benden. I guess one of the visiting bronzeriders dropped it," she said. She frowned, wondering if she should share her suspicions. It couldn't hurt, she supposed. "I was wondering if it might have been dropped by B'toc's attacker, actually."
