T'ron stood there on the floor of the weyrbowl, hands in his pockets, as he watched in silent amusement as the strange white kitten he had acquired on the southern continent tumbled around and chased her own tail. He had no idea what he was going to do with a giant kitten ... she would eventually grow to be a very large feline. A big honking predator. For now, she was innocent enough.
But what about later? Would she remain peaceable, or would she start attacking the younger members of the Weyr? He knew her littermates were also around, at the Weyr somewhere. Where, he had no idea. Who had them, he also didn't know. The return from the southern contenient hadn't been exactly very well organized or orderly, what with the emergency of the situation.
The mother was around, somewhere, too. Whether or not she lived? He had no idea. Things had been a little strange of late. So for now, he stood there in the sun, hands in his pockets, and watched the kitten he had named Silver Cloud play in the dust and sun.
Scooting across the ground and batting at a leaf, rump in the air, she looked quite adorable ... if on the giant side for a feline kitten.

Yselka was heading towards the hatching grounds. They would be needed very soon. After the tension of the last flight and clutching, this one promised normality. Tucked into one arm was *her* feline.
It was affectionate and she even got the odd image from it, almost like Rebel. A name, she had not yet decided upon. Rogue, maybe?
She didn't know yet whether it was male or female, these cats being no easier to sex than the regular variety. "What are we to do with them?" she asked T'ron, ruefully...she quite liked the brownrider.
Even if he did only ride brown.

T'ron looked up suddenly, when he was spoken to. "M'lady." He said, quickly, when he realized who it was that was addressing him. "Well ... I don't know, actually. I was pondering that, myself, there for a bit." He admitted, glancing back at Silver as she bounced across the ground playfully, up to the Weyrwoman's feet. She stretched upwards on her back legs, and patted at the woman's thigh, mewling at her sibling in recognition.
"Hey, now." T'ron said, unfolding his arms and reaching to shoo the feltar off the Weyrwoman's leg. It would be really nasty if the young thing suddenly decided to play tackle with her rather unprotected leg. He managed to shoo Silver Cloud off, and then he straightened again, grinning apologetically at Yselka.
"Going to take some training, if we're going to let them hang around, that's for sure." he mentioned, watching Silver warily as she stalked around and around Yselka, staring up at her sibling.

The tabby male squirmed free. Landing, of course, on his feet, he bat batted at Silver Cloud.
"Rascal," Yselka decided, flickering the cat a grin. "Yes, and they're cats, but they seem to be almost...intelligent. Not the normal run of feline, that's for sure."
Maybe they were a new breed, escaped from some southern hold. Or...something. The south was so huge and so unexplored that entire species could easily hide. "What's next? Runners with dragon wings?" she added, clearly joking.

Silver Cloud lept straight up into the air when her brother landed, legs going in all directions. She hissed for a moment, hair sticking out in all directions once she landed on the ground again. And then it was over. She patted at his paws in return, purring again.
T'ron shook his head in bemusement, and then looked up at Yselka with a very slightly twisted grin. "Intelligent ... sometimes. Other times? Not so much. But I want to point out ... almost all felines are intelligent to a certain extent. I agree these seem smarter. But ... depending on how things go ... that could be good, it could be bad. I don't know what to think about it. We certainly don't want them to decide to be our enemies, that's for sure."
"Runners with dragon wings..." T'ron laughed out loud at the idea. "That's a good one, M'lady." He chuckled, grinning broadly.

Yselka grinned. "It was the most ridiculous thing I could think of," she commented, reaching down to rub her kitten behind the ears.
"No, but on the other hand, I don't think I could hurt these kittens, at least not while they're kittens. Their dam wasn't large enough to be a threat to a dragon and even if the males are a bit bigger, they're still not going to be in that range. If they stay tame, then they will be useful."
She could think of quite a few uses for a large, fast running feline. "Of course, if the Bitrans get their hands on a litter, they'l probably try to *race* them."
She couldn't, quite, see cats cooperating with *that*.

T'ron's brows shot up into his hairline. "Race felines?" He asked, dubiously, before bursting out in laughter as the mental image popped into his head of felines chasing each other in all directions except the direction that people would want them to go ... up to and including the third dimension. Felines were by no means restricted to ground pounding. "That would be a sight to see!!" he chuckled.
"If they stay tame ... that's a big if. But one I'm hoping happens." He mentioned, watching as the feline cubs played on the ground. He was glad that Silver Cloud had never tried to do that with him ... even as a kitten, those paws had to conceal some massive claws.

Yselka laughed as well, appreciating the shared image...without benefit of dragon or firelizard translation.
"They might be convinced to hunt with us if they do, like canines. That would definitely make them useful." Those big hunting canines were valuable, but they didn't share images, and sometimes she caught the edges of them from Rascal.
Except not quite like firelizards. "Canines who Impress. Or something very similar, and that female was definitely able to attract dragon attention." Lyeth had said that she could feel the cats, but it was almost as hard as talking to a human other than her rider.
Presumably, it went both ways, not an easy thing to do for either party. As if they worked on a different frequency.
OOC: Just as a note, feltar claws are like cheetah claws, they don't retract, but aren't as needle sharp as those of other cats. More like dog claws.

((ooc - ty))
"Hunting ... now I bet they'd make excellent hunters. I betcha they'd make hunting canines look like clumsy oafs, too." T'ron commented. He could actually look forward to hunting parties, tagging along behind Silver, if she could be taught to hunt for the Weyr. Hunting with dragons was rather ... uninteresting. Dragons merely swooped down out of the sky, and bit the heads off of whatever animal they targeted. Dragons also couldn't hunt the areas that had trees ... so that could be quite interesting indeed.
As if life needed to be more interesting, around here, he reminded himself.
"It would be interesting if the reverse were true, also. If a dragon could get the attention of a feline, and direct them as to what they can see?" T'ron suggested. "I'll have to do that. Maybe Sebeth and Silver here can learn to talk to one another. I'll keep you posted on results." he assured her.
Silver Cloud bounded away, and then back again, mewling happily before springing into the air like her legs were made of stout springs. Her tail pinwheeled through the air, before she landed ontop of her brother.

Yselka nodded. "It's worth trying. Lyeth rather thinks talking to a mere cat somewhat beneath her."
She smiled at the kittens again, as they wrestled, Rascal meowing loudly in his sister's ear, perhaps as a tactic to try and get her to let go.
"They're also quite attractive creatures," the Weyrwoman mused. "I should find somebody to do sketches of them while they're still kittens. Maybe the artist I'm hiring to sketch the next Hatching....the weyrlings might appreciate some pictures."

"An artist?" T'ron asked, with interest. "That would be a nice touch. Especially since we've no idea where the weyrlings will be going, once they are bonded." He remarked. "Kind of odd, being the hatching nest for the whole world. All right here." He mused. "Who are you hiring?"
Silver Cloud meowed loudly right back, apparently thinking it was a hilarious game, to see who could meow the loudest without actually breaking into a shreik. Bouncing off of her brother, she wiggled as she spun around him, head almost on her front paws, always facing him.
"I'll get Sebeth to work on it ... when he wakes up." T'ron mentioned.

"A Harper journeyman who's currently at Nerat. He seems to be very nice. I need," she added musingly, "To find somebody to convey him."
So far, most of the weyrlings had stayed here, but the next clutch, which would be soon, might be different. Of course, Benden had made noises about not accepting any 'mutant' hatchlings.
Well, that was their problem. Maybe Tuyenth would lay only normals and they could get their weyrlings from there...but that would be in couple of turns.
She wished the felines were useful for Threadfall. At this rate they'd be training the firelizards...

"I could fetch him in." T'ron offered, always willing to be helpful above and beyond what was required of him. But not so much to the point he was willing to take on weyrlings or candidates. Oh, no. He wasn't that generous ... or patient. T'ron liked to do short jobs, yes.
Silvercloud bounded around again, and skidded sideways to a stop in front of Yselka. Looking upwards at the weyrwoman, she tilted her head, whiskers all sticking forward beneath huge kitten ears. "MrroeoW?" She queried, before looking down and batting at the toe of her shoe experimentally with one paw.

Jealous, Rascal tried to bodycheck Cloud out of the way. Yselka opened her mouth to answer T'ron, but suddenly found herself thoroughly, well.
Kittened. "Silly felines. You're going to knock me over." Not that Yselka was some petite woman who could be easily moved, physically...or, of course, mentally. "Either physically or with the force of your cuteness, I'm not sure which."
It was..well, they would be distinctly hard to resist, the kittens. And they had females...although as they were cats, they wouldn't want them breeding with their littermates.
An expedition to find more? Not until they were sure these would stay tame...

T'ron watched the kittens at Yselka's feet, and couldn't help but laugh, quietly. "Silver. Hey." He said, 'hey' being uttered a little harder than the word usually was said.
Silver tumbled in the dirt after being knocked into by her brother, all four paws flailing up into the air in some semblance of a wrestle-with-him order. But ... Rascal wasn't there to wrestle with. And then T'ron was calling her.
Rolling to her feet again, Silvercloud shook, fluffing all he fur outward again, and raising a fine dust cloud in the process. Prancing around Yselka's legs in a rather queenly fashion, she kicked her tail upwards at a jaunty angle. Arriving at T'ron's feet, she rubbed on his legs, with a tiny little rumble of a pur.
"Good girl." T'ron greeted, before crouching down and allowing his fingers to sink into the kitten's baby fur. It was so soft, and T'ron rather liked petting her. Ruffling the fur on her cheeks, he then patted her on the top of her head. "Be good." He admonished, before standing again and grinning at Yselka.
"I have to say this; even now, after just barely having been here, she's got a phenominal understanding of what I tell her. She's got to have some sort of mental link in some sort of fashion, for that. Though she hasn't told me anything yet."
In the mean time, Silver resumed rubbing her body, back arched and tail up, all over his legs. Thankfully, his weight was centered on both feet for the time being.
