It wasn't as early as their lessons usually were, S'koin thought unhappily, staring at the tall back of the Weyrleader and his bronze as the former shoulder large sacks of firestone and heaved them onto his beast. Shard H'zu for winning Lyeth again! He didn't understand why the Weyrleader was going to personally involve himself with lesson - of all lessons. But then, H'zu had told him as leader of one of their Wings, the Weyrlings would need to understand what H'zu expected of all of them.
With enough sacks of firestone for each of the Weyrlings, and several filled with 'duds' and firestone, the two mounted their dragons and H'zu nodded to him, signaling for him to call the Weyrling group. Slung across S'koin's shoulder was a flamethrower; Nebrona would get her practice as well.
Weyrlings. Report! The great brown called, trumpeting loud enough to call all the dragonets and their riders out.
"We're ready, Weyrleader," S'koin called. A moment later, H'zu raised his fist signaling for them both to rise and rise they did! heading for the Training Grounds.
Kirith landed first, followed by the Weyrleader, as per Wing formation. Looking around to the assembled Weyrlings, S'koin nodded at their promptness. They were indeed learning.
"Today, boys and girls, dragon-men and ladies, will involve your first experience with firestone," S'koin boomed, loud enough to be heard adragonback. "The Weyrleader and I have assembled sacks of firestone for groups of three! Come and grab and assemble."

Nebrona came, assembled, and watched her groupmates grab up firestone sacks with a vaguely envious air. She loved Allirth, and wouldn't trade her for anything, but somehow the prospect of slinging around a flamethrower just couldn't compare to the excitement of a flaming dragon.
Why ever would you want to mess about with that? It's messy, it smells-
And it's messy. Nebrona finished the thought for her queen. You do realize that flamethrower's likely to have its own share of mess?
Not if you use it right, darling. Allirth drawled teasingly. Don't you know that? *Lyeth* is never dirty after practice, you realize.
I'm sure. Nebrona replied dryly. She went for the flamethrower that S'koin had brought, instead of the firestone, and hastily threw together choices for her group of three. She knew who she’d *prefer* to work with, and glanced speculatively over at W’nec and K’ton.
