Name: D’ya (formerly Darya)
Gender: Female
Age: 37
Season:
Sexuality: bisexual
Rank: wingrider/searchrider
Hair: blonde
Eyes: grey
Height: 6’2’’
Weight: 173lb
Description:
A tall, greyhound lean woman who moves with short sudden bursts of speed. D’ya doesn’t have much in the way of curves but doesn’t much care anymore about something that worried her back in her younger days.
Pale blonde hair is cut to a fingerlength every moon by Darya personally, and is shot through with occasional grey hairs. D’ya’s face will almost certainly be described as handsome or striking rather than pretty and her washed out grey eyes and quick flash of a smile do very little to soften the harsh planes and stubborn set to her jaw.
D’ya always looks like she got dressed in great hurry, in the dark, regardless of the actual amount of time and care she took, her boots come undone for a pastime, her shirts attract food, and the knees of her trousers attract wear. Skirts and dresses aren’t something D’ya ever thinks of wearing, she considers the idea of herself in a skirt ridiculous.
History:
Darya was was a flightbrat born to a greenrider who already had two older children with her weyrmate. Darya had a fairly normal upbringing for a weyrbrat, her days were spent in the crèche with the other weyrbrats and she and her siblings returned to their parents’ weyr at night.
As soon as she was old enough to understand the game her older half brother and sister began including Darya in their games of dragonrider, harper, hunter, and whatever else they could think of to while away an afternoon being. Needless to say dragonrider was Darya’s favourite game, and she would often demand that her older siblings take turns at being her dragon and flying her around, she hated playing harper because she can’t carry a tune in a bucket and that just gave her siblings an excuse to point it out.
As a nine turn old weyrbrat it galled Darya incredibly that her siblings were allowed to stand for clutches when she wasn’t old enough. Despite pointing out that she’d never be as old as them, because no matter how old she got Irrin and Foram would always be three and four turns older than her, Darya was not able to get the adults around her to see sense and was forced to wait until she was twelve turns before she stood.
Though it was the longed for victory standing as a candidate Darya was disappointed, she secretly hoped that the first dragonet to crack shell would run right for her. However it was not to be, Darya was passed over at the first hatching and sulked for a month solid even though her siblings had been passed over numerous times.
Being a fellow veteran candidate made Darya closer to her older siblings, no longer was she an annoying weyrbrat who demanded rides on their shoulders; she was their comrade in misery.
Now too old for endless games of play pretend and tag Irrin, Foram, and Darya spent their spare time hanging around in various areas where adults wouldn’t spot them being idle and talking about whatever first came to mind, since Irrin and Foram were now well into their teens the topic was often relationships, which Darya found boring at the time but grew to find more interesting as the turns passed.
At eighteen turns Darya’s older brother Foram decided to stop dreaming of dragons and get himself a craft. He left the Weyr to train as a smith leaving Darya and Irrin waving after his runner. Both Teliri and J’kar thought this would bring the girls closer but instead they drifted apart with Darya ardently still pursuing her dream of dragonriding and Irrin yearning after the path Foram had taken. In the turns that passed the three candidates also became apprentices to various craftsmen, Irrin had an interest in weaving while Foram took up smithcraft as an apprentice to a journeyman at the hold and Darya studied dragonhealing avidly.
At fifteen turns Darya was finally chosen by a dragon, green Ysarith, the last dragon of her clutch to Impress. Ysarith wandered uncertainly among the candidates while her clutchmates hatched and Impressed before she totally abandoned the males and heading for Darya. Ah D’ya, there you are! Why are you over here? I am your Ysarith and I’m very hungry indeed because my rider has been hiding from me instead of feeding me. The green reproached her newly chosen rider and practically pushed D’ya off the sands, which turned out to be something of an indication of her future personality.
D’ya and Ysarith muddled their way through weyrlinghood with remarkably few incidents and most of them more embarrassing than painful. While Ysarith worked her charm on the other weyrling dragon and gained a few friends D’ya was simply content with the absence of enemies.
For a long time D’ya lived life in a pattern of wing drills, Searching, and tending her duties as a healer, interrupted every so often by the drama of Ysarith’s Flights. Her dragon’s mating flights were at first something D’ya fought, not liking losing control or the reactions of some of the male riders she ended up with, namely those who preferred male greenriders. However she did form a few friendships with some of the riders she met that way and some greenriders of both genders who shared similar experiences.
Then the plague came to sweep away her peaceful routine, the whole of Pern was suddenly in uproar. D’ya lacked any experience of disease that effected dragons. She was one of many dragonhealers who elected to treat the symptoms of the disease while a vaccine was prepared for the dragons. However it tore her heart when the treatment and even the vaccine failed on so many dragons. Then the plague was over leaving D’ya and Ysarith alive and thankful for it. However D’ya suffered depression for many months afterward as she had lost friends and lovers to the plague and felt that she failed them.
Then the hidden cost of the dragon plague emerged and hope, though not entirely dead was reduced to fragile seeming dragon eggs that rested on Ista’s sands. D’ya was not the only one to breathe a huge sigh of relief when the clutch produced healthy dragons even if some didn’t hatch. However she couldn’t help a nagging doubt that gold Lyeth would be infertile. Despite this D’ya gave all her support to the new weyrwoman, who was pretty much forced into the role right away, always saying when someone broached the topic of Lyeth’s fertility to her ‘we shall see soon enough’. And soon, they will see…
Personality:
Most often serious, though possessed of a wry and sometimes sadistic sense of humour, D’ya likes to think everything over before she does it, which sometimes gives her indecisive air, however once D’ya is on her chosen course not much can divert her from it.
D’ya likes to be seen as self sufficient and useful so does as much as she can for herself, about the only thing she doesn’t do is cook her own meals, which is just as well since D’ya can’t even boil water without burning it. She also avoids commitment in her relationships hating to be dependant on anyone, even, or perhaps especially, emotionally.
D’ya’s most unfortunate habit is saying exactly what she thinks most of the time and not even bothering to wrap it in polite language. If you’ve annoyed D’ya, or she thinks your shirt is hideous, you will know about it.
Pets:
Name: Magpie
Species: Firelizard
Colour: green
Age < 1 turn
Appearance: A few shades on the light side, swirled with even lighter markings across her flanks. She is slightly larger than average for a green, especially her wings.
Personality: Ooh! Shiny! Watch this firelizard...her owner will spend much time relieving her of jewelry and other shinythings and returning them to their rightful owner. When it comes to flights, only shiny firelizards will do..she will most likely choose bronze, but might settle for something else...shiny
For Riders:
Dragon name: Ysarith
Dragon color: Green (88ff09)
Dragon age: 22
Hatching season: winter
Dragon description: a deceptively delicate looking female on the small end of the green scale. Ysarith is long of neck and tail, both of which she uses very obviously in her body language. Ysarith ahs a bright, almost yellowish green hide that is marked by a mottling of darker and lighter shades. The darker tones dapple her shoulders and flanks while the lighter ones are concentrated on her wing membranes and under belly.
Dragon personality: Ysarith is strong willed and bossy with apparently no perception of how small she really is, she certainly orders D’ya around though her rider doesn’t always give the green what she wants. However Ysarith is not above trying to boss males and other greens around when she wants something.
Ysarith is the outgoing, friendly and hedonistic counterpart to her serious chosen. There’s not a day that goes by without the green thinking up some new game, or flirting with a male dragon who may or may not have any interest in her, or annoying another green with her incessant friendly chatter. Ysarith will also talk to other people than D’ya, mostly other riders or weyrfolk she knows or candidates, particularly if she chose them, when she’s bored with what other dragons have to say.

Adoptable: I’d prefer not as I use a different version of this character at Selenitas and would prefer that no one was accused of stealing her, especially not me.
